Watertown Broadcast Infrastructure Decommissioning

Catholic Television has long served audiences throughout Watertown and the surrounding areas through its broadcast communications infrastructure, including transmission facilities critical to distributing television and related media services. Maintaining and modernizing this infrastructure requires periodic upgrades and removal of legacy systems to ensure continued operational efficiency and safety.

TCI was engaged to perform tower infrastructure decommissioning services at Catholic Television’s Watertown, Massachusetts facility. The scope of work focused on the systematic removal of radio frequency (RF) transmission lines, antennas, associated communications equipment, and supporting electrical infrastructure that had reached the end of its service life.

TCI executed the controlled dismantling and removal of these systems. The project involved disconnecting and removing specialized RF transmission lines and antennas installed at elevated locations on the tower structure. All work was performed by experienced tower technicians trained in tower climbing, rigging, and fall protection procedures, ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards throughout the operation.

In addition to RF system removal, TCI safely de-energized, disconnected, and removed associated communications equipment and electrical infrastructure. Careful planning and execution were required to eliminate potential hazards, protect the integrity of the remaining systems, and maintain compliance with all applicable safety regulations and industry best practices.

The successful completion of this project prepared the facility for future infrastructure improvements while ensuring the safe removal of obsolete communications systems and related equipment.
