Our CEO Steven P. Kelly with his brothers Greg and Ed.

Falling on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. This day, and the profound impact our veterans have on our daily lives, resonates deeply with Timberline. Central to our appreciation and support for our veterans is our partnership with Mass Fallen Heroes, an organization committed to memorializing service members who did not return home to their families.

At the forefront of this partnership is Timberline’s CEO, Steven P. Kelly, whose personal connection and unwavering commitment to honoring our veterans are the driving force behind the partnership. This dedication is deeply rooted in his own family’s military history. His brothers Greg, a U.S. Marine and Green Beret and Ed, of the U.S. Air Force, put into perspective the immense sacrifices our veterans and their families make, allowing us to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted. For Steven, honoring these heroes is not a choice but a responsibility we all share.

The Genesis and Growth of Our Partnership

Mass Fallen Heroes was founded in 2009 to recognize special forces personnel who often do not receive the support and recognition they need. The organization aimed to raise funds for fallen veterans and their families, ensuring their sacrifices are not forgotten. Steven Kelly joined the organization as an advisor to the board in 2010, contributing his professional experience to help develop structure, drive strategy and build essential political and community relationships. His efforts were instrumental in building Mass Fallen Heroes and amplifying its impact and recognition within the community.

Since then, Timberline’s commitment to Mass Fallen Heroes has been evident in our extensive support over the years. Beyond financial contributions, Timberline has engaged in hands-on activities to raise awareness and funds. One notable effort involved hosting sample sales, where surplus goods from TJX were sold at discounted rates to veteran families. Initially held at Timberline’s office in Canton, these events quickly expanded, becoming a significant fundraiser that helps support exclusive programs and services for Gold Star Families and the veteran community to this day.

Steven also played a crucial role in overseeing the design and construction of the Mass Fallen Heroes Memorial, one of the organization’s largest early projects. On May 27, 2016, in Boston’s Seaport District, the 50-foot memorial was dedicated to those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom since September 11, 2001. This tribute to our service men and women was a milestone for the organization, a place for Gold Star Families, Veterans and the general public to reflect and honor our heroes. In addition to hands-on support, Timberline has been a Black Falcon Sponsor for multiple years, providing financial backing to support the mission and values of Mass Fallen Heroes. Our ongoing and evolving endorsement of this organization is a cause many of us at Timberline are deeply passionate about.

Alignment of Mission and Values

Timberline’s mission and values are deeply rooted in giving back to the community and supporting those who have served our country. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive and supportive environment for veterans, many of whom have found meaningful employment within our company. Our commitment to these values is reflected in our longstanding partnership with Mass Fallen Heroes.

Mass Fallen Heroes’ dedication to honoring fallen service members and supporting Gold Star families—those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty—resonates strongly with Timberline. We believe in recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans and their families and ensuring they receive the support and care they deserve. This commitment goes beyond mere words; it is ingrained in our company culture and community initiatives.

The Future of Mass Fallen Heroes and Timberline

Timberline and Mass Fallen Heroes share a storied history, a relationship built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to honoring our nation’s veterans. As the organization evolves, our partnership continues to grow, adapting to meet the needs of veterans and their families. One of the most exciting initiatives on the horizon is Innovets, a program designed to help veterans grow businesses and secure their futures. Innovets provides veterans with the support and resources necessary to create and sustain businesses—opportunities they might not have otherwise received.
